Miss A rocked the red in her boudoir session.  I’m so pleased that I’m able to share!

It’s been a week and a half inside of three days!   Excited about a session tomorrow, editing Saturday’s session, blizzards-be-damned I have work to do.  Next week I’m running off to Vegas for a mini work-ation and last night I was  announced Photographer of the Year by the Association of International Boudoir Photographers…

A quick share because it’s Wednesday… I think.

I guess I’ve not really shared a whole lot of images of the new space. Slowly, but surely, it’s become the space I’d envisioned when I first moved in. It’s almost like a marriage or moving in with someone new… there’s an adjustment period and there for awhile I was a bit overwhelmed. The old studio had 11 foot ceilings, the new one has 12′ – so window treatments were too short and this space is considerably smaller so I had to scale back on the props I had become so accustomed to at the old space. Finally, the adjustment period feels like its at an end and the studio now feels like ‘home’ … Here are just a few :) Studio4web

My Open House is/was scheduled for this coming Thursday, however I feel that I must delay.

First, I want to offer my apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

Second, I want to offer my explanation. Recently my Grandmother has been taken into hospice care as she is nearing the end of her battle with Alzheimer’s. I’ve spent a lot of time being with family recently, time I had not anticipated needing for personal reasons. Technically I *could* continue with the preparations and go on as planned but, I fear that my heart is just not in it.

Again, my apologies and I do hope that you will attend in January.

The other day I received an email from a new Passion Party consultant who is looking to like-minded businesses such as mine to expand her client base.  Normally, those go to the trash bin without a second thought.  However – I let this one sit for a day or two before I respond.  There may be some merit to this one…   Here’s part of her email:  “My goal is to educate women and make them more comfortable with their bodies.   I try to open up the communication between partners and build better relationships.”  Hey… kinda sounds a bit like what I do, ya know – find the sexy that we ladies tend to lose in the mound of laundry.  But still… I hesitate, then decline.  In response to my decline this consultant replies ‘may I ask why’ ((ooohhh.. I like her already))  and to be honest… I really couldn’t verbalize my reasoning.  So what the heck.. I’ll throw this out there to see if there is any interest among my past, current and future clients, friends, family, friends of family ((I could really go on for awhile with that list as I find it somewhat amusing–recall Forrest Gump and the shrimp listing going on an on…))

So – would you, could you want to ….

… I dunno… explore these passion party thingamajigs?  I’d host at the studio cuz  I’m gracious like that…

LADIES ONLY!  Dudes – go set up your own passion party, this is for girls only!

Just a quickie to wish everybody a very happy and safe Independence Day.

I spent my day relaxing with an old chest of drawers… a piece I picked up months ago and haven’t had the time or the energy to get started on.   Reviving old pieces of furniture was a hobby I picked up last summer when furnishing my first studio.  I love the lines and the sturdy build of vintage furniture but wanted to blend those vintage lines with a clean and modern finish and so I googled and pinned and repinned and read more articles about the pros and cons to this chemical or that.  Wet sanding versus dry sanding and primers galore.  The photo below are two of the pieces that were ‘reclaimed and repurposed’…

Today – I started on a third piece that promises to be every bit as beautiful as her sisters-in-waiting. ((If you have a session coming up, please don’t be alarmed by the state of my hands – oil based paint is a bit of a beast to the ol’ manicure.))

June 2, 2012

It’s been 8 years since I’ve had the pleasure of moving. I think that I will stick to portraiture as my career because as a mover… I suck. It’s not the hard work, pfft.. I’m a mother.. I eat hard work for breakfast. It’s the packing, the unpacking, the re-organizing part – where does one start!!?

My possibilities are nearly endless.  Does the vanity look better here, or there?  Oh – wait, maybe over in the other corner.  The rough sketch in my mind is starting to take form – I can’t wait to share images!

Please note:

Bella Boudoir is now located at 1800 Central, Suite 204, KCMO

It’s officially official.. the mailbox has my name on it.

As much as I love my current studio, it’s time for a change.

Bella Boudoir is moving!  The new studio is less than a mile away from our current location at 2100 Grand.

It is … well.. aaaahhh-mazing!  Two floors of photographic yumminess, complete with exposed brick and mortar, twelve foot ceilings with yummy exposed beams, a delicious hardwood floor and windows!  Ohhh.. the windows!   Oh.. I almost forgot to mention – THE CLAWFOOT TUB!  I see bubbles in my photographic future!

The plan:  Neutral tones, white on white with little pops of rich color here and there.  The first floor is destined to become a living area type set with new round loveseat.  Shabby modern in style… with a ROUND!  LOVESEAT!  ((sorry, I’m a bit stoked on that one))  Another small area will be sectioned off for comfy cozy proofing consultations on the big screen :P

Traveling up to the second floor – the bedroom set.  Think over-the-top lavish, romantic, rich in texture, neutral in tone.  The second floor will also include a private dressing area full of my stash of vintage accessories, and finally a few chairs scattered about for a bit of variety.

I can’t wait to show you.  June 1st is the big moving day, and without missing a beat, Bella Boudoir will be ready for sessions on Monday, June 4th!  Oh.. the new address?

1800 Central, Suite 204, KCMO 64108 – One block south of the Kauffman Center, one block east of Broadway on 18th street in the heart of the Crossroads District.  ((Can we say First Fridays!??!))
