Nope. Not working… not on Sunday…I wouldn’t dare…
Or would I?

Miss A rocked the red in her boudoir session. I’m so pleased that I’m able to share!

Ssshhh. Don’t tell the hubs – I’m not supposed to work on Sundays but I couldn’t help but share a few recent photos.
Wow.
Somewhat speechless. Honored, for sure! Thrilled to bits. Pretty much near tears.
I’ve known for awhile now but reality didn’t set in until I read the feature article and saw the photos that my friendly competitor, Marco Simonelli of Bold As Love Boudoir took of me to include within the article. Reality. It’s here. Can’t wait to share the pics of the magazine and article.
Just back from Vegas where I attended the WPPI expo (a trade show for the photography industry) and while there I met up with the most talented photographers to shoot in the Nevada desert. Here are a few to share for now :) More, many more to come!
I’ve sat here for at least ten minutes thinking of a title for this post… I’d think of something and then backspace… nah, it didn’t feel right, didn’t sound right, wasn’t the right word … I have no turn of phrase that would accurately describe what this post is about so it will be ‘Untitled’ for now… or indefinitely.
This post is about family. About love…and most of all .. it’s about being a woman.
When I think of people who have had the greatest impact on my life I think of my parents. My dad, who is not my father but my DAD in every way possible has given me a sense of decency, taught me to act with integrity and do the right thing. Our relationship is a somewhat typical dad/daughter relationship.
The relationship that I have with my mother isn’t as simple, rather it feels quite complicated.
My mother is a force. I wish I could go into detail why I admire her so – but it’s not my story to tell but I will say that she has a strength that I could only wish to possess. She is tenacious, intelligent, witty and above all else generous. She’s also tough. The kind of tough that taught me that whining about whatever situation I’ve put myself in won’t achieve a thing that I must create my own solutions. She taught me to work hard, provide for myself and to endure. The lessons she taught me did not come easily…..and I can’t imagine that I was an easy child to raise ((horrible, awful teenager – truth be told))
My mother. This force to be reckoned with recently asked me to photograph her. Sure Mom. Give me a day…. ((she’s been saying this for years but had never committed to date)) I expected the same this time but was a little shocked when she actually gave me a date. Wow. Ok. Cool.
Woah.
Wait!
What?
That’s my mom! ((my inner teenager gagged a bit))
I used to get nervous before sessions. That went away. Then I would get nervous anytime I would photograph another photographer. That went away as well. Photographing my mother? NO PRESSURE.
It took me a moment to set aside the fact that I was shooting my mother and put in the forefront of my mind – that I was, in that moment, photographing a woman. A gorgeous, witty, intelligent, generous woman – who happens to be my mother.
Where to start? It’s been a crazy-busy time around here. Gearing up for the holiday season, spending time with family and keeping up with the laundry has kept me so busy I’ve not had opportunity to share much of anything here on the ol’ bloggity blog.
I will start with this…
I’m flattered when someone chooses me to provide their intimate portraits. I’m giddy when that someone happens to be someone whose work I admire.

Flat out, tween giddy. Squeeeeee!

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing not just one, but THREE professional photographers that traveled a great ways to come to my studio just inside the month of September. Tonight, I will blog about the first. ((Gotta build up anticipation right? Keep y’all comin’ back for more? Right?))
Meet Lynn Clark of Lynn Clark Portraits. Lynn made a tour of the Midwest last month that included a stop in Kansas City for her session and of course, a visit. Thursday evening we had arranged for a portfolio session that we would shoot together. That evening was cooler than it had been and rainy. Pick up 3 clear umbrellas and we’re shooting outdoors! Can I just say that I had an amazing time! Ok – I’m sayin it. I had an amazing time. It’s rare that I’m able to venture outdoors for a portrait session anymore but our model, Brooke, was more than willing! Then Friday we spent the day preparing and shooting Lynn’s session. Two creatives working with one another can often be tricky at best but shooting Lynn was a dream and a hoot! ((Remind me to tell you about Lynn locking us out of the studio while I am wearing nothing but a sheer lace jacket, panties and heels….))
I’ll be sharing more, but for now.. here she is… she’s as stunning on the inside as she is on the outside. I hope to see my friend again very soon ((but next time, I’m hiding a studio key in my shoe))
Adventures, my dear friend, are what make life worth living. Not only did we make beautiful pictures together and deepen our friendship, we also had an adventure we’ll both remember and laugh about for the rest of our lives. Admiration back at you! xo
[...] know, you’re nervous. I was nervous too when I did my boudoir session in September. I was concerned about how the extra 15 pounds I’m carrying would show up. I wasn’t [...]
Sometimes intimate photography is more about about attitude and emotion than it is garters and stockings.
Love the “Push hard” on the door way! hehe
